Welcome to the Institute of Product Development

At the Institute of Product Development and Engineering Design (IPeG) we pursue education and research as integral components of our cooperation with a high number of students and our partners from the sciences and industry.

We oversee and work with more than 1000 students annually in the field of Engineering Design and corresponding projects, and we convey the basics of Product Development and Design, while looking to fascinate and inspire people for the many opportunities in our subject. A wide array of courses and events in the Bachelor and Master studies addresses our holistic, cross-domain view of and approach to Product Development with special regard to Computer Assistance, Reliability and aspects of Machine Construction.

Our focal points:

  • In the development methodology, we research PDM/PLM/technical inheritance, product cost analysis as well as enterprise typological development processes.
  • Within the context of the integrated product development, we work on interdisciplinary innovation projects, design for Additive Manufacturing and the sustainability of products and processes.
  • As part of computer-aided product development, we generate knowledge-based engineering systems for the configuration and optimization of products, develop models for hybrid value creation and we are experts for multiphysics simulations and hybrid construction parts.
  • We come up with and specify concepts for optomechatronic devices, are experts in the field of optics simulation, and we manufacture prototypes and validate these using our lab equipment.

Projects concerning the transfer of research and application are worked on by the staff members of the Institute of Product Development and Engineering Design, who come from different research backgrounds such as vehicle manufacturing, plant engineering and construction as well as medical, process and industrial engineering.
