In his dissertation titled “Optical Design and Simulation for Flash LiDAR Systems,” Zhuoqun Dai investigates ways to optimize the range of Flash LiDAR systems.
While scanning LiDAR systems—commonly used in automotive technology—capture points sequentially within the field of view, resulting in relatively low frame rates, Flash LiDAR systems offer the advantage of capturing the entire field of view in a single shot. However, their range has so far been limited by inefficient use of available laser power. Zhuoqun’s work significantly improves this range through innovative beam shaping and a coaxial optical design for the transmitter and receiver. His dissertation thus makes an important contribution to the rapid advancement of autonomous vehicle systems.
