IEEE Smart World Congress (SWC) 2025

From August 18 to 22, 2025, the IEEE Smart World Congress took place at the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, Canada, under the theme “Convergence of Minds: Forging Human-AI Partnerships Across Disciplines.” The congress brought together several renowned sub-conferences, including:

  • IEEE Digital Twin (DT 2025)

  • IEEE Metaverse (MVS 2025)

  • IEEE Scalable Computing and Communications (ScalCom)

  • IEEE Ubiquitous Intelligence and Computing (UIC)

  • IEEE Autonomous and Trusted Vehicle Conference (ATC)

Our Contribution:
As part of the IEEE Conference on Digital Twin, we presented our paper titled “A Data-Based Digital Twin Model for Distributed Systems in the Field.” Our model addresses the challenges of distributed systems in real-world operation and demonstrates how data from humans, machines, and the environment can be efficiently utilized according to FAIR principles—illustrated through a sensor-based vehicle operating in an urban environment.

Technical Exchange:
Particularly valuable were the discussions on digital twins and the use of generative AI. Highlights included contributions on 3D object recognition, digital threads, efficient user profiling, and frameworks for digital twins in energy infrastructure.

Keynotes & Industry Day:
Inspiring talks by Dr. Chunsheng Yang and Dr. Giancarlo Fortino explored current developments in large language models (LLMs), generative digital twins, and the interplay between edge and cloud technologies. The Industry Day provided insights into innovations from Amazon, Google, and Dell.

Outlook: IEEE SWC 2026 in Italy
The next IEEE Smart World Congress will take place from August 18 to 22, 2026, at the University of Calabria, Italy. Contributions in the form of full papers, short papers, posters, and demos are welcome.

Important Dates:

  • Submission deadline: April 1, 2026

  • Notification of acceptance: July 1, 2026

  • Camera-ready version: July 31, 2026
