We are revolutionizing optical design with innovative processes and development tools to bring customized optical systems into application.

Projects

  • PhoenixD Cluster of Excellence (DFG, EXC 2122, ID 390833453)

We are investigating optical manufacturing using additive manufacturing processes that enable greater design complexity, functional integration, and voxel-by-voxel control of material properties. Examples include embedded printing for the functionalization of optical fibers using quantum dots and glassomer printing of microfluidic glass structures for integrated spectroscopy systems.

  • Application-specific, AI-assisted spectral Raman detection (DFG funded with HOT, TNT & PhoenixD)

Conventional Raman spectroscopy is optimized by additively manufactured free-form optics and diffractive elements to enable compact, field-ready microplastic detection in real time. AI-supported analysis automatically identifies the composition of the samples examined with regard to microplastic occurrence.

  • Development of a measurement system for qualifying LiDAR systems in their life cycle (BMWK ZIM funded with Scramblux GmbH)

This project involves the development of a miniaturized measurement system that enables the performance data of LiDAR systems to be qualified over their entire life cycle. We are working closely with our industry partner Scramblux GmbH on this project.

  • Other projects
    • Sensor for detecting contaminants in aircraft kerosene (industrial project with Faudi Aviation / Sefiso GmbH)
    • Development of a LiDAR system with adaptive field of view
    • Robust design approach for the design and manufacture of optomechanics using additive manufacturing
    • Raman spectroscopy in microfluidic systems using envelope currents and optical tweezers
